Olivine Basalt Abrasive Blasting
Olivine Basalt rock media is carefully processed and graded as an ‘Abrasive Blasting’ application.
HARDNESS
Rockwell Hardness - 53.86
Vickers Hardness - 175.4
Mohs Hardness – 5.8
Coarse and Medium grades are excellent for,
• paint removal
• heavy rust and
• powder coating
CHLORIDES
Chlorides were found to be at a concentration of 50 mg/kg, which can be considered typical value for grits derived from naturally occurring rock. The presence of such levels of chlorides in the abrasive is not likely to contribute to corrosion of steel substrates.
STEEL AND ALUMINIUM
After blasting the steel and aluminium substrates the surface roughness was measured and found to be slightly courser than that obtained with similar sized garnet grit.
ABRASION RATES
Abrasion rate of the blasting media have been determined for each grit by measuring the time required for the blaster to remove all surface coatings from the test plate material as shown below.
RECYCLED
By comparing the difference between the particle size distribution of the grit before and after blasting it can be seen that there is the potential for the grit to be recycled as not all particles were found to degrade in size.
SAFETY
This is a silica free abrasive blasting product.
Industry trials have proven the product to be the most effective as a paint and heavy rust removal agent.
